blues

: : it is true that I wear colors almost everyday. it is not true that I take a picture of my colors everyday. that seems to be the tricky part. but here are two of my outfits from last week. i recently found these electric blue pants at target. I love them.

summer colors

I am fully aware that I am way behind Katie on the color blogging. I'll try to catch up.

friendship rug

this past week, the remaining residents of anna's and my former house ("the garden") are packing up their stuff and moving out...

while i normally don't get emotional over vacating rentals*, the house that this rug represents was (and hopefully will be again) really something special. it became home to our group of friends 5 years ago, and during those years, 5 at a time (sometimes more, depending on if someone was sleeping in the hallways or in the "guest closet"), nearly all of our extended family of friends called it home. anna and i overlapped there for 3 years!

the house is beautiful, on a dead-end street in leafy cambridge. it is creaky and strange, retrofitted and re-retrofitted, with green wooden floors in the kitchen, orange walls in the dining room, bedrooms scattered up and down two stories, appended by porches, overgrown in the flowerbeds, stocked to the gills with everyone's leftovers (food-wise and other-wise), and really loved by anyone who's been there. which actually includes hundreds of people, when you count party-goers and sub-letters. still, there is a core of about a dozen of us who spent some seriously formative time there, and none of us left that house unchanged.

while cleaning the last of my crap out of the basement a couple of days ago, i snagged this BEAUTY of a rug that we all made, together, several winters ago up at dillys' cabin in new hampshire. i love this rug - because it is made of recycled woolen blankets and coats, because it lived in the garden for so many years, because cute eloise already favors naps on it, and because so many of us spent that cold and cosy weekend braiding bits of it and stitching it together.

thanks, garden!!!

*also, normally i don't write much personal on this blog but i figure, hey, the 5 people out there reading it might not mind a bit of background!

shades of green (and peaches)

aaah, august at the farmers market. i found some super pretty (and tasty!) greens, a bunch of scallions, some wonderful peaches and the first apples of the season. i also found these crazy looking suckers with the spiky skin! apparently they are brazilian cucumbers. they taste just like... wait for it... cucumbers.

back on the wagon

or is it off the wagon? either way, i'm determined to pick up this colorblog!

found the new jcrew catalog in the mail yesterday and love love loved the spread for the "crewcuts" - all the colorful and whimsical objects, bright clothes - whoever is doing art direction for jcrew needs a round of applause (or at least a good fat raise!)

balloons

: : biking to work has been lovely these past few weeks. and sometimes I see the strangest things on my way to and from work. this giant bouquet of balloons was too much to pass up, it had to go on the colorblogg. it appeared as if a group of people had tied a chair to the bottom of all the balloons almost as if it was an air balloon and were letting people take turns going up and down.

last week

: : i may not be posting everyday, but I still am wearing colors! these were last weeks outfits.

new color week!

now onto our 2nd week of color! when we started this blog, the sky was grey, there was snow on the ground, the river was frozen and everyone on the streets of Boston were wearing black and grey coats. This week, the sky is blue, the sun is shining, it's supposed to be in the 90's tomorrow, time to get in our spring and summer clothes! Which means it's the perfect opportunity to do a second week of colorful outfits. join us and send us a photo of your colorful spring outfit!

here are Monday's outfits! even eloise is in color!

range of colors

my lovely friends louise works for a Swedish textile company .ludvig svensson. When she needs inspiration she sneaks into their design studio. that's where she found all these colors that inspired her. tack louise!!

atmosphere of celebration

i went to see matthias sauerbruch (a principal of sauerbruch hutton architects) lecture the other night, and was so pleased to hear him address COLOR! i've admired this firm for quite a while, in part because they so often clad their buildings in beautiful, colorful, performative skins.

it made me SO happy when he likened building skins to clothing - and said that when buildings have colorful skins, or people wear colorful clothing, it not only lifts the mood of the wearer, but creates an "atmosphere of celebration" for everyone nearby. well said, mr. sauerbruch!

in that spirit, anna and i are going to embark on another week of colorful outfits - posted every day. hopefully we'll make you feel more celebratory ... of course happily aided by the newly GORGEOUS weather!

friday colors

today, no colors. too much snow.

tuesday springtime

i looooooove flowers. and at $1.29 for 10 stems, trader joes daffodils are my seasonal luxury of choice for late winter (or as i like to think of it - early spring!). i thought i'd share the humble little flower arrangements i have in my house today. the beautiful red floral place-mats are a home-made christmas gift from my mother - how cute are they?!

tasty

these pretty oranges were noticed by caroline - and reminded me of how much i LOVE the colors of produce. part of why i love going to the grocery store! the weird looking fruit is dragon fruit, a picture from my trip to thailand. sadly, not nearly as tasty as it is pretty.

primary colors

some of last week's most vivid primary colors... with special contribution from oregon's own israel.

happy feet

striped socks (and their feet) belong to my lovely friend caroline. monster socks - a gift from leonard!
